Behaviour Detection techniques have been in use within law enforcement and aviation security for many years, with significant success. In a statement by John S. Pistole, Administrator, Transportation Security Administration, U.S. Department of Homeland Security before the House Committee on Homeland Security, Subcommittee on Transportation Security on November 14, 2013, Mr. Pistole stated that:

‘Behavior Detection Officers (BDO’s) are trained to identify behavior cues that have been shown through research, science, and decades of domestic and international law enforcement experience to be reliable indicators and predictors of anomalous or suspicious behavior…Since we cannot always predict the form evolving threats will take, BDOs provide a crucial layer of security. Over the last several years, BDOs have demonstrated that these techniques are an effective means of identifying people engaged in deceptive and/or illegal activity, and those who harbor a fear of discovery, all consistent with behaviors that might appear in individuals planning to do harm’.

Our classroom based Security Behavioural Awareness course consists of inputs on designed to develop the participants competence in identifying people entering their work environment who may have criminal intent, using behavioural awareness methods. Training inputs are provided by Advanced Security & Risk Solutions personnel who have significant experience in both the policing and aviation security sectors, as well as in the training of behaviour Detection and Analysis officers and their operational deployment. The level of competency of course participants is assessed on the final day of the training programme.
